Saturday, 01/05/13 - Are you putting your health in your own hands or in someone else’s hands?

Over the past few decades, America has become the most overfed yet undernourished nation in the world.

When people feel sick, they go straight to the doctor’s office, looking for a quick fix to relieve whatever ails them.   And they think they are well again.

There are pills for feeling dizzy, pills for feeling sad, pills for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, indigestion, erectile dysfunction, you name it!  Yet despite the ever-increasing variety of prescription medicine available, current middle aged Americans report feeling less healthy than the generation that preceded them!*

Our life expectancies are reducing, as are those of our children, who are expected to live 10 years LESS than we are.  And most of us are dying from a small handful of the same AVOIDABLE diseases. 

This year I turn 60 and have a renewed since of urgency to really hone in on improving with an even better health journey. Because without our health what good is all the rest of what we accomplish in life if we’re not able to enjoy it? 

After reading Dr. Sandra Cabot’s book ‘The Liver Cleansing Diet, I’ve decided to add raw juicing to my daily regimen and invested in a NutriBullet juicer for the job.  After having my first one raw juice I can really tell the difference in how I feel. 

Here’s one of the liver cleansing juices in Dr. Cabot's book:

2 Dandelion leaves or 2 spinach leaves or 2 large cabbage leaves

½ cup broccoli florets

1 cup cauliflower flowerets or 2 large brussel sprouts

1 garlic clove or one small radish (optional)

½ cup chopped parsley

1 whole red apple

Wash trim and chop vegetables and process in juicer. This juice is high in vitamin C and sulphur compounds to cleanse the liver.  Add water to NutriBullet or juicer to dilute mixture or use fruit flavored tea. Sweeten with 1 or 2 of the following:  Strawberries, grapes, carrot or beetroot.  (mixing grapes and carrots together may cause flatulence.)
