Tuesday, 08/18/20 - Vikki Goodwin State Representative & Congressman Roger Williams Mask Mandates

*See my latest correspondence on September 17, 2020 to Roger Williams Congress 25th District Texas and his return response below -

August 18, 2020 -

Dear Ms. Goodwin,

Last week my 27-year-old son who has been having heart racing, increased BP, anxiety, panic attacks and on beta blockers for over a month had a stress test at his cardiologist here in Lakeway. The nurse who obviously is not aware of the medical studies (he did not see his doctor during the stress test) required that he wear a mask while on the treadmill for over eight minutes.  Needless to say, I was quite concerned.  This is not only ludicrous, it is negligent for medical professionals to not know how dangerous it can be wearing a mask while on a treadmill, especially when they are seeing the doctor for heart issues.  People are making irrational decisions concerning the positive benefits of mask wearing including these medical personnel due to the measures ordered by our state officials when the medical science clearly states otherwise.

The information below is from -  *E Person, C Lemercier et al.  Effect of a surgical mask on six-minute walking distance.  Rev Mal Respir. 2018 Mar; 35(3):264-268.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29395560/

It must also be considered that masks impede the necessary volume of air intake required for adequate oxygen exchange, which results in observed physiological effects that may be undesirable.  Even 6- minute walks, let alone more strenuous activity, resulted in dyspnea.  The volume of unobstructed oxygen in a typical breath is about 100 ml, used for normal physiological processes.  100 ml O2 greatly exceeds the volume of a pathogen required for transmission.

Here are a few more studies from the medical science journals for your review.  There are many more we have researched and continue to research the facts.

Respiratory acidosis: “Respiratory acidosis develops when air inhaled into and exhaled from the lungs does not get adequately exchanged between the carbon dioxide from the body and oxygen from the air.”

  • Here are just a few of the symptoms from respiratory acidosis - reduced heart muscle function
  • disturbances in heart rhythm, producing arrhythmias
  • a drop in blood pressure

American Journal of Infection Control – “Face mask use in health care workers has not been demonstrated to provide benefit in terms of cold symptoms or getting colds.” PMID: 19216002

   https://www.ajicjournal.org/article/S0196-6553(08)009097/fulltext

Journal of Epidemiology & Infection – “There is little evidence to support the effectiveness of face masks to reduce the risk of infection.” PMID – 20092668

https://academic.oup.com/aje/

Journal Neurocrania (Neurosurgery) – “Preliminary Report on Surgical Mask Induced Deoxygenation During Major Surgery – Our study revealed a decrease in the oxygen saturation of arterial pulsations." (SpO2). PMID : 32237672

  http://scielo.isciii.es/pdf/neuro/v19n2/3.pdf

(NEJM) New England Journal of Medicine “We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic.”  PMID :  32237672

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372

Annals of Internal Medicine:  April 6, 2020 - “both surgical and cotton masks seem to be ineffective in preventing the dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 from the coughs of patients with COVID-19 to the environment and external mask surface.”

https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-1342

I appreciate your consideration in this matter and look forward to your response.

Response from Texas Rep. Vikki Goodwin September 1, 2020 -  Two weeks after my last email on August 18, 2020 -

This is the third response I've received from Texas Representative Vikki Goodwin (D).  I haven't heard from the Governor Abbott's office once.

They are not backing down and she keeps saying the same thing over and over even after the latest information on statistics from the CDC which I have posted below.

***From Texas Rep. Vickki Goodwin, District 47 September 1, 2020***

Dear Sue,

Thank you reaching out to my office with your concerns about the mask mandate. I appreciate the scientific articles included in your message, this effort does not go unnoticed. Now, I am deeply sorry to hear about your son's difficulties of increased heart rate, BP, anxiety, and panic attacks. I agree that these turbulent times may be difficult for your family and especially your son.

However, from the information I have been given by doctors, health professionals, and officials, I still believe that face masks are one of the easiest ways to prevent further spread of COVID-19. The virus is very easily transmitted through droplets, and wearing a mask can stop the droplets from infecting others. I stand by Governor Abbott's recent executive order to require Texans to wear masks statewide. I understand that face masks will not completely eradicate COVID-19, it is clear they do make a significant impact in mitigating the spread.

We learn more each day about how we can combat COVID-19. We must be willing to adapt to new information even when it may conflict with earlier understandings of the virus. While your personal beliefs and research may cause you from not wearing a mask, that infringes upon the health of others should you have the virus and spread it to others. I understand the difficulty your son may face during this time but,It is our responsibility to wear a face mask whenever one is outside their home so that we may all do our part in keeping one another healthy and safe.

Again, I am deeply sorry about the difficulties your family has faced in light of COVID-19. Thank you for contacting my office.

Sincerely,

Rep. Vikki Goodwin

State Representative, District 47

Latest Information from the CDC August 26, 2020 -

3.1% death rate in USA

94% of deaths were dying from other comorbidities, underlying medical conditions.
ONLY 6% of the documented COVID19 deaths in the USA were actually deaths from COVID19 and nothing else.

Every other case was a comorbidity case with prevalent medical conditions OTHER THAN COVID19.

It means of the 183,000 people who supposedly died from COVID19 only 10,900 of those cases were strictly COVID19 deaths.

They have been taking people who were dying (average age 79.5 years) and calling it a Covid-19 death.

Repsonse from Vikki Goodwin Texas State Representative (Democrat) July 31, 2020 -

****This is the website where I filled out the first petition to our state representatives concerning the state wide mask mandate on July 3, 2020.  So far I have only heard back from Rep. Vicki Goodwin and have not heard from Govornor Gregg Abbott's office. ****

Dear Sue:

Thank you for contacting my office. From the information I’ve been presented by doctors, health professionals and officials, I believe that face masks are one of the easiest ways to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and I fully support Governor Abbott’s recent executive order to require Texans to wear masks statewide. While I understand that face masks will not completely eradicate COVID-19 from our lives, it is clear that they do make a significant impact in mitigating spread.

Because of the novelty of this virus, we learn more each day about how to combat COVID-19. We must be willing to adapt to new information even when it may conflict with earlier understandings of the virus. If we are to return to any sense of normalcy in the near future, we must listen to health professional's current recommendations for mitigating spread, which include mask wearing. While your personal beliefs may cause you to not want to wear a mask yourself, that infringes upon the health and safety of others should you have the virus and spread it to others. This virus is very easily transmitted through droplets, and wearing a mask can stop the droplets from infecting others. It is your responsibility to wear a face mask whenever you travel outside your home for the foreseeable future so that we may all do our part in keeping one another healthy and safe.

Sincerely,

Rep. Vikki Goodwin

State Representative, District 47

Email To Roger Williams Congressman 25th District - September 17, 2020

I have had several email exchanges with Representative Vikki Goodwin regarding the Mask mandate ordered by Governor Abbott on July 3, 2020.  We are no longer in a state of emergency and would like to know when this mandate will be lifted?

Personally, I am not able to wear a mask due to medical reasons.  I have not gone to any locations where a mask is required.  That means I am confined to our home most of the time which is not freedom and in my opinion is totally un-American.

I am concerned about the voting polls even though Governor Abbott stated in the mask mandate on July 3rd that voting polls and churches were exempt.  The reason for this concern is because people like myself are being discriminated against because we choose not to jeopardize our health by wearing these mask which can be quite harmful according to all the medical science journals I have researched.

I sent this information concerning what happened with our son and the scientific research below to Ms. Goodwin and now sending it to you for answers.

Last month our 27-year-old son who has been having heart racing, increased BP, anxiety, panic attacks and on beta blockers for over a month had a stress test at his cardiologist here in Lakeway. The nurse who obviously is not aware of the medical studies (he did not see his doctor during the stress test) required that he wear a mask while on the treadmill for over eight minutes.  Needless to say, I was quite concerned.  This is not only ludicrous, it is negligent for medical professionals to not know how dangerous it can be wearing a mask while exercising on a treadmill, especially when they are seeing the doctor for heart issues.  People are making irrational decisions concerning the positive benefits of mask wearing including these medical personnel due to the measures ordered by our state officials when the medical science clearly states otherwise.

Congressman Roger Williams response September 18, 2020.  As we can see he really didn’t answer my questions, did he?  Just another canned response from a politician.  At least he responded.
