Monday, 02/22/16 - Are You Reaching & Keeping Your Weight Loss Goals?

Anyone can lose weight right? What's most important is how many people really do keep the weight off long term? Of course we all know there are certain life circumstances that may cause a person to gain weight such as pregnancy, health conditions, etc. What I'm really focusing here on is all the people who yo-yo diet, lose and gain weight for years because they really have a hard time incorporating healthy habits into their life.  In reality, Diets Do Not Work!  If they did why is the obesity rate in our country sky rocketing? 

It's been a journey and a challenge at times but I have keep the weight off without all these fad diet programs, eating diet foods, counting calories, or any type of fad diet pills, gimmicks, etc.  Over the years I've developed a certain healthy mind set.  My mission and goal is to encourage others about being healthy not constantly or every New Year focusing and obsessing on losing weight. Because usually most of the time people get all excited about losing on this or that new program and then end up gaining weight back plus more because they never really adapted a real healthy mind set.  It was all about losing the weight.

So what is my secret? Pretty simple really... I eat real whole foods, fats are in my diet, sugar in moderation, eliminated the wheat, get some sort of physical exercise 3 to 4 days a week even if it's just a 20 minute walk. I have kept the weight off over 5 years!  Interesting thing is when I was 50 lbs over what I am now that was at a time when working out 4 to 5 days a week doing hard core step aerobics, etc., and I could never seem to lose weight.  It was the food!  Lot's and lot's of fast food, processed food, eating out or take out restaurant food.  Lot's of pizza, fast food chicken and burgers, bread, biscuts, gravey, hostess Cup Cakes and Ding Dongs. You get the picture right?  Oh I eat some of that now only when I do it's gluten/wheat free.  And instead of the Hostess cup cakes, I either make my own gluten free cup cakes (be sure to check my recipe area) or eat dark chocolate and I read the labels first to be sure it's not full of junk! 

Lately though I've even had trouble processing all grains including rice and especially corn.  So I've been doing a lot of Paleo which really means no grains to give my digestive system a rest.  If I do eat corn it's got to be NON-GMO and in moderation.

Check out below what a typical brunch/lunch looks like for me. And I only eat half the sandwich and the rest later as a snack.  When I do go for my burger fix at All Star Burger here locally at the Galleria Mall where they have gluten free buns and fries, I eat HALF the burger and fries and bring the rest home for later or my husband eats it!  I have not gotten a tummy upset eating there.

Organic turkey, bacon, avacodo, grass fed cheese, lettuce, paleo mayo, dijon mustard on grain free paleo bread from my local business owners here in Austin - They have some really awesome grain free chocolate cookies and muffins and a new grain free flour mix to make your own!  We buy ours at Peoples Pharmacy in Westlake or their South Lamar location.
